Protection of the environment in
which we live and operate is part of Low Knob Press’s values and principles and
we consider it to be sound business practice. Care for the
environment is one of our key
responsibilities and an important part of the way in
which we do
business.
Our
Environmental Policy is to be a responsible corporate citizen in protecting the
environment. We are committed to complying with accepted environmental
practices, including the commitment to meet or exceed applicable legal and other
requirements, to strive for continual improvement in our environmental
management system, and to minimize the creation of waste and pollution. We are
committed to working hand in hand with FSC/SFI to preserve our natural forest
resources. We will, therefore, manage our processes, our materials, and our
people under the defined scope of commercial printing, in order to reduce the
environmental impact associated with our work.
We
incorporate
sustainability into our core business operations through internal and external
efforts. Specifically, we shall adopt the following policies and practices:

Employee
Education
We
educate employees on resource conservation and pollution prevention through –
- Hosting only
zero waste events i.e. ensuring that no waste is generated during company
picnics, meetings.
- Inform
employees of environmental issues in company training material and staff
meeting discussions

training for our staff so that we all work in accordance with this policy
and
within an environmentally aware culture
Reduce,
Reuse and Recycle
We
–
- Reduce waste at
the source by printing double sided, buying in bulk, and eliminating
disposable products such as dishes and single serve water bottles
·
Reuse
equipment such as desks, lamps, furniture, or donate usable items to charities
- Strive to reach
Zero Waste by recycling all resources such as paper, plastics, cardboard,
glass, and aluminum AND composting all food and plant discards.
Toxics
Reduction
We
reduce the use of toxic materials to protect employee health and the
environment. Specifically we –
- Only purchase
low toxic janitorial cleaning products accepted on SFapproved,
Green Seal or have an 8.1 rating or above on Good Guide.
- Lamps – Purchase
T8’s or T5’s, low mercury fluorescent lamps, LEDs and/or low wattage
halogen lights.
- Implement an
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program when controlling pests.
- Have disposed
all toxic products safely such as old paints or non approved cleaning
products and recycle CFL’s, fluorescent tubes, and batteries.
- Avoid
purchasing toxic substances and any aerosol cans.

We
conserve fossil fuels by –
- Promoting the
use of public transit and commuter alternatives

- Participating
in spare the air campaigns
- Using
energy-conserving hardware programs and unplugging equipment
- Reusing and
refusing packaging materials
- Emphasizing
repurposing of items in lieu of purchasing new items
We
strive to remodel using LEED Green building standards.
